Confessions of a Home Organizer: The Beginning of Tidy Tiffany’s
In this blog series, I will share things I have learned on my journey to becoming a home organizer and things that I learned on the job. I have always been very organized. I honestly thought everyone thought the way I did. When I went to job interviews, they always asked the question, “What are your strengths?” I would, of course, say I am very organized. However, it was not until the pandemic that I was faced with some hard truths. While I liked order, I did not know much about the home organization world. I did not even know it was a profession. During this time, the Home Edit came out. This is when I learned about “pretty organization”. While being stuck at home with a baby, I was staring at four walls and the stuff that we had accumulated. Sounds familiar?
I started with our pantry. We had bulk items from Costco, and I could not see what we had. So I slowly started applying what I had learned from the Home Edit. I love this company; however, I do not fully buy into the rainbow color scheme. I would spend hours at night staring at the containers and the configurations, trying to figure out what system would be best for my little family.
During the pandemic, everyone was jumping on the home organization bandwagon. You could hardly find any containers at the store. Well, you really could not find anything you needed at the store. Then I started seeing my friends after being stuck at home. I started helping them with their decluttering and organizing projects. After leaving a friend’s house, she called me a few hours later, letting me know that she had three trash bags to throw away. She said that I helped her see things that she had not thought about before. She was one of the people who told me that I should start my own business. I told my friends, “NO.” I can organize myself but organizing for other people is another game. But I started thinking about what I was going to do with my life. I was a preschool teacher before becoming a mom, but I did not want to go back to teaching. So I started working in my friends and family’s homes. This is how Tidy Tiffany’s Organization was born. I really did not know where this was going. I loved the organization and helping people. I find it rewarding to help people find peace in their space. Always remember decluttering and organizing are not projects, but it is a continuous process.
